Meet Dr. Jillian Bardsley
Let me tell you a little bit about how I came to practice family medicine obstetrics in Ottawa.
I graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School after completing an undergraduate degree at McGill in Women’s Studies and Biomedical Sciences. I moved to Ottawa to pursue a Family Medicine residency at the University of Ottawa. I had the privilege of being introduced to labour and delivery while volunteering at a hospital in rural Peru in 2008. I have never ceased to be amazed at the power of women’s bodies and the love women have for their children.
As to my style of practice, I practice evidence-based medicine because I believe strongly in the power of science to guide us to good health. I also believe that natural intervention, lifestyle changes and a tincture of time are often appropriate first steps in health care. I will always do my best to give you excellent whole-person care.
I love my work as a family physician. Supporting families in their pregnancy and parenthood journeys brings me great joy and satisfaction. I care for prenatal patients at my family practice office at 888 Meadowlands Dr E. I deliver at The Ottawa Hospital - Civic Campus with a group of likeminded female family physicians.
In my off time, I enjoy time with my husband and our three kids. We can often be found biking around Ottawa and hiking in Gatineau.
Philosophy of Care
I believe that pregnancy and birth are usually natural and healthy phases of life.
Pregnancy and birth are profound experiences. Emotional and spiritual health are important components of a healthy pregnancy.
Sharing information, offering choices and respecting a patient’s decisions are key parts of my role. I welcome questions, discussion and feedback. Patients should play an active role in their care.
Up-to-date medical information should be used to guide care. Unnecessary testing and medical interventions should be minimized whenever possible.
Serving the Greater Ottawa Area
Bardsley Maternity Care is located at the Meadowlands Family Health Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.
I see patients who live anywhere in the Ottawa region who want to deliver at The Ottawa Hospital - Civic Campus. I welcome patients from further afield in Hawkesbury, Rockland, Orleans, Manotick, Riverside South and Greely. My office is easily accessible from Ottawa’s more central neighbourhoods such as Carlingwood, Nepean, Alta Vista, the Glebe, Westboro and Hintonburg. At this time, I am unable to care for patients who do not have a valid OHIP card or who reside in Quebec.
